Link PAN with Aadhaar: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CDT) has notified the penalty amount under section 234H of the Income-tax Act, 1961, which will be applicable for linking PAN with Aadhaar after the expiry of the due date. According to a notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on March 29, 2022, a fee of Rs 500 will be charged for linking PAN-Aadhaar within three months of the expiry of the deadline. This would mean that if the PAN-Aadhaar is linked between April 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022, the person will have to pay a fine of Rs 500 for linking it. If PAN-Aadhaar is linked after three months, a penalty of Rs 1,000 will be levied by the Income Tax Department.
The law to levy penalty for not linking PAN-Aadhaar by March 31, 2022 was introduced as an amendment to the Finance Act, 2021. Which was introduced in the Income Tax Act, 1961 to levy section 234H.
Though the law states that the penalty for not linking PAN with Aadhaar will not exceed Rs 1,000, the exact amount was not specified. The latest notification issued by the Income Tax Department has specified the penalty that will be levied for linking PAN with Aadhaar after the expiry of the deadline.

What happens if PAN is not linked with Aadhaar?
According to the press release issued by the CBDT, “In order to reduce the inconvenience caused to the PAN card holders, vide Notification No. 17/2022 dated March 29, 2022, an opportunity has been provided to the taxpayers to link PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2022.” went.” If they do not do so, taxpayers will have to pay a fee of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 for three months from April 1, 2022.
Thus, your PAN will remain active till March 31, 2023 and the unlinked PAN-Aadhaar can be linked by paying the penalty amount.
