What is School Nursery Scheme? 

The Government of India has made many schemes to deal with pollution. Now the government has brought a new scheme in which schools have also been included. Along with studies, children have been given an opportunity to learn the art of caring for and growing trees and plants. 

School Nursery Scheme has been started by the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of India for the students of classes 6 to 9 in schools.

Due to industrialization and urbanization, harmful components enter the environment, due to which the environment becomes polluted which is very harmful for humans and animals. The government also expects help from citizens in reducing environmental pollution and making it balanced. In every district, the government plants trees and plantations in lakhs of numbers every year. Along with this, by giving practical education to the students of the school about trees and plants and a clean environment, is preparing them to keep pollution and global warming under control in the future.

School Nursery Yojana Features:

• School Nursery Yojana has been started on a pilot basis for 5 years. 
• Under the School Nursery Scheme, the art of plantation is taught to the students. They are taught how to establish and maintain a nursery. 
• Also the natural process of germination and development of plant seeds is explained. 
• Applications are sought from schools to join the School Nursery Scheme. Selected schools are included in these. These lead schools help other schools set up nurseries. 
• Schools must have 100 square meters of open space on which 1000 saplings can be planted. 
• From the very beginning, each student is given the responsibility of taking care of at least one plant. 
• Funding for school nurseries is provided by the National CAMPA Advisory Council (NCAC).
• The State CAMPA Committee (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) submits the project proposals of their respective states. 
• The grant amount has increased from 3.50 crores in 2016-17 to 4.50 crores in 2019-20. 
• In the first year 1000 schools were selected and were given a grant of Rs 25000. 10,000 rupees are given for the maintenance of the nursery in the next two years if the program is run properly. From the fourth year onwards, the schools have to be self-sufficient to run the nursery. 
• With the grant money, schools can buy essential things like nursery beds, water systems, pipes, soil, pot poly bags. 
• Under the scheme, the nursery is properly set up by the students in the schools and it is taken care of. For this investigation Project Manager from the unit Forest Policy Division is appointed. 

Eligibility Criteria for Schools and Students:

• All the students of class 6-9 can participate in this scheme. 
• The school must have an open area of ​​at least 100 square meters in which nursery can be set up. 
• Schools which are running Eco Club on their campus will get priority to join the scheme. 
• The school principal must give a written consent that they undertake to take proper care of the nursery for at least 5 years. 
• Schools are either required to have a water recycling facility. Rain water harvesting machines should be implemented and facilities for recycling and reuse of waste water should be started. 
• Schools interested in the scheme will have to submit the application form to the office of the Forest Conservation (DCF) or the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) . 

School Nursery Training and Benefits to Students:

• It is the responsibility of the school authority to teach nursery art as a practical form of biology lesson and encourage students to take interest in it. 
• Keeping this goal in mind, the school authorities take the students on excursions to the nearby parks and gardens. These excursions are helpful in bringing them closer to nature. 
• School authorities can help students write about the process of plant growth in the logbook. Students observe the seed germination period and note it in the logbook. 
• Students learn how to meet various conditions for seed germination to be extremely important for plant growth. Such as water, temperature, light and oxygen in proper quantity. 
• Teachers and nursery workers train students in collecting seeds. They learn how to dry the seeds and how to sow them. They are taught the process of grafting in plants and given information about its benefits. 
• Taught about the benefits of a clean and balanced environment. 

School Nursery Yojana Registration

If anyone who takes advantage of this School Nursery Yojana will have to apply online for this school nursery scheme, but at present, the government has not started any website/portal to apply online, the government is doing it at the central and state level. Will implement later the scheme can be implemented on a small scale, but at present, there is no need for you to apply online in this scheme.
