Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) is the flagship life insurance system of the Maharashtra government aimed at improving the health of the state’s residents.

Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) is the major health insurance system of the Maharashtra government. The scheme provides end-to-end non-cash services for identified diseases through a network of public and private service providers. Formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Jivanodaya Arogya Yojana, the scheme was launched in eight districts from July 2, 2012, and then expanded to 28 districts in Maharashtra from November 21, 2013.

The scheme provides coverage to cover all hospitalization costs of the beneficiary up to Rs 1.50,000 per family per policy year. The kidney transplant limit has been increased to Rs. 2.50,000 per family per policy year.

Through a dedicated network of hospitalized surgery and treatment or counseling to improve access to families below the poverty line (BPL) and above the poverty line (APL) (excluding white card holders as defined by the Department of Civil Procurement). Certain services are an important goal of mahatma jyotib phule jan arogya yojana.

Eligibility For Covid-19 Treatment under MJPJAY

All the families in Maharashtra who have white ration card, yellow ration card, Antyodaya Anna Yojana card (AAY), Annapurna card, orange ration card as well as government employees are eligible. In addition, farmers from 14 agricultural distressed districts of Maharashtra (Amravati, Akola, Aurangabad, Buldhana, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal) will also be eligible.

The eligibility of the beneficiaries will be decided on the basis of any identity card / health card or any other identification mechanism as decided by the State Health Assurance Society (SHAS).

MJPJAY vs Ayushman Bharat Yojana

Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) was launched by the Government of India from September 23, 2018. AB-PMJAY in Maharashtra was launched with the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and was implemented on a mixed insurance and assurance mode.

The Integrated Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) and Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) was launched in the state on 1 April 2020. United India Insurance Company Limited (a public sector undertaking company) is providing healthcare.

State Health Assurance Society providing insurance coverage to beneficiaries under insurance mode and coverage on assurance mode. The State Health Assurance Society is paying an insurance premium of Rs 797 per family per annum in quarterly installments on behalf of eligible beneficiary families.

The Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana is fully funded by the Maharashtra government. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is jointly funded by the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra in the ratio of 60:40.
